DENVER (AP) — Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are closing in on adding Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Robert Livingston as defensive coordinator, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team has not finalized the hiring. Livingston is set to inherit a Colorado defense that surrendered 34.8 points and 453.3 yards per game in Sanders' first season in charge. Livingston started as a scout with the Bengals in 2012 before later joining their coaching staff. In Colorado, he would work with a secondary that includes Travis Hunter, a first-team All-Pac-12 defensive back who also plays wide receiver, and Shilo Sanders.

“America's Team.”The team that much of America loved, and perhaps just as much loved to hate. The title these days has fallen on the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the San Francisco 49ers next weekend in their fourth Super Bowl in five years. Just like so many versions of “America's Team," though, a certain amount of fatigue also is setting in. They can make it four next Sunday, when they play the 49ers in a Super Bowl trending to be the most expensive ticket in history. We’ve got an even bigger target on our back than we did last year,” Chiefs safety Justin Reid said.

Evan McPherson's 48-yard field goal in overtime was the difference and ended a three-game losing streak on the season and a nine-game road skid on MNF. It ended an otherwise stellar night for Lawrence, who completed 22 of 29 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Browning completed 32 of 37 passes and directed the overtime drive that set up McPherson's field goal. Beathard put the Jaguars in position for Brandon McManus’ 40-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. “It should have been a game-winning field goal,” said Jaguars coach Doug Pederson, pointing to the 48-yarder McManus missed early in the fourth.

___The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers haven't let last season's postseason disappointment become a hangover in 2023. Both teams head into Sunday's rematch of last season's NFC title game with a chance to turn those recent failures into success. The Eagles are the fourth team in NFL history to win at least 10 of their first 11 games in back-to-back seasons. The Eagles and 49ers are currently the top two seeds in the NFC, setting the stage for a rare possible NFC title game rematch. It has happened five times in the AFC, including last season when the Chiefs hosted the Bengals for a second straight season.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Lamar Jackson hurt an ankle and lost one of his top targets to a more severe injury. Jackson threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter — one of which came thanks to a fortuitous carom — and the Ravens beat Cincinnati 34-20 on Thursday night after the Bengals lost Joe Burrow to a wrist injury. Burrow left in the second quarter after throwing a touchdown pass and wasn't able to return. “That's like receiver one sometimes.”Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced after the game that Andrews' injury appears to be season-ending. Cincinnati won the division the past two years, when late-season injuries kept Jackson off the field for the Ravens.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is honoring the medical team that helped save his life by launching a scholarship program for Cincinnati youths on Sunday. The announcement coincides with the Bills’ first return to Cincinnati to play the Bengals on Sunday night. Hamlin and the Bills arrived in town a day earlier, when the player personally unveiled the scholarship program during a dinner with the 10 life-savers. “I’m humbled by the opportunity to set up a scholarship program to honor this team of professionals — my Cincinnati heroes — who helped save my life,” Hamlin said in a released statement. He eventually went on to play for the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Bills in 2021.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals showed a national TV audience on Sunday night they are still serious AFC playoff contenders. The latest was a 24-18 victory over the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of a divisional playoff game from last season. Joe Burrow threw for a season-high 348 yards and two touchdowns, and Cincinnati's defense forced two turnovers and held off the Bills. The subsequent Bengals drive ate up 5:20 and a 20-yard field goal by Evan McPherson extended Cincinnati's lead to 24-10. Aided by a roughing the passer call on the Bills' Tim Settle, Burrow put together another extended drive.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another — shrugging off aggravating an injury to his throwing shoulder — and the Buffalo Bills hung on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 on Thursday night. After a week of questions about his “low-energy” approach and Buffalo's slow-starting offense, Allen came through for the Bills (5-3), throwing for 324 yards on 31-of-40 passing. Buffalo’s defense limited the Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield-led attack to less than 200 yards of offense through three quarters and 302 overall. But it took Tampa Bay 17 plays and 7:21 to march 92 yards for that score. Allen took advantage, topping 300 yards for the 23rd time in his career.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills safety Damar Hamlin is active against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and set to appear in his first regular season game since having a near-death experience on the field at Cincinnati in early January. Hamlin was a healthy scratch through the Bills first three games this season, and gets the nod with starting safety Jordan Poyer sidelined by a knee injury.
